pH Testing

pH is the measure of acidity or alkalinity of the water. 7.0 is neutral.
Lower figures are acidic, greater figures alkaline.
A difference of 1.0 in pH represents a difference of 10 times in acidity or alkalinity.

I use the pH strips provided by WaterWatch.
The particular product I am using covers a range from 5.0 to 10.0 in increments of 0.5 - intermediate values being estimated. (Merck, Neutralit, part number 1.09533.0001, 100 strips in a small transparent box.)

A similar product which covers a greater range is also available for waters which are outside the normal range.

Electronic pH meters are available but require careful use and regular maintenance.
The electrode must not be allowed to dry out.
